What are your visitor policies?

Answer

The Souvay Memorial Library is open to visitors from outside of the seminary.  However, it is not a public library and is open to specific types of patrons at specific times.

  • Patrons from outside of Kenrick-Glennon Seminary are expected to confine their visits to weekdays, 9 am to 3 pm.
  • Ideally, they should inform the library before their visit either by filling out this form or calling 314-792-6131.
  • By special arrangement, patrons from the Augustine Institute can visit the library at Kenrick during regular office hours, M-F, 8 am to 5 pm.

Under these parameters, the library is especially open to:

  • Catholic clergy and religious
  • Employees of the Archdiocese of St. Louis
  • Affiliates of the Augustine Institute
  • Affiliates of other MOBIUS institutions
  • Scholars from other academic institutions

Attention MOBIUS affiliates: Because of ongoing complications with implementing OpenRS, we cannot check books out to MOBIUS patrons visiting our library.  MOBIUS patrons are strongly urged to request items from our collection through the MOBIUS catalog and arrange for delivery to their home institutions.

Members of the general public who do not belong to one of these categories may still visit and use the library, but only with permission of the library director, only upon providing an explanation of their need, and only with prior notice.  Unless approved by the library director, they may not check out books. If they are affiliated with public libraries that belong to MOBIUS (e.g., St. Louis County Public Library, St. Charles City-County Library) they should request our books through the MOBIUS catalog and have them delivered to their home libraries.

All non-Kenrick visitors are asked to confine their activities to the library and the seminary's public areas.  Our seminary is a residential community where many people live and work.  Please respect our community by not wandering into residential parts of the seminary.

Unfortunately, due to demand from our seminarians, we cannot reserve research carrels for non-Kenrick patrons.  Visitors are welcome, however, to use the study tables and desks on the first floor for the day and are expected to remove their belongings by the end of the day.
